Wolfgang, Illyria, and Mycroft proved especially vicious and subtle in their campaign against the insolent, inadequate lord Paxter Whent of Harrenhal, who refused to be a faithful pawn, despite Wolfgang having given him lands and titles. Wolfgang had Illyria seduce and spy on Paxter, and ordered her to break the hapless lord’s heart, with the aid of the especially cruel Mycroft, Illyria’s lover. Paxter demanded a duel with Mycroft, and Wolfgang consented, allowing both champions, knowing full well that Pax would be his own champion, and having arranged with Mycroft to have Ihniel as his champion, effectively sentencing Pax to death through his own pride. Paxter later comitted suicide by attacking Mycroft and Illyria in the hall, and was slain by the guards. Wolfgang had the body stripped and paraded for the treasonous attack, beheading him, displaying the head, and allowing Anders Brax to cut out Pax’s eyes. Mycroft has taken all credit, so Wolfgang’s reputation is unscathed by the incident, especially as Pax was unpopular.
